Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin shells custom-made to adhere to the visible side of the teeth.  They can be used to address a wide variety of cosmetic issues including stained, excessively worn, or broken teeth and large gaps or irregular spacing between them.

Veneers are a popular option for improving the appearance of one’s smile because they offer a natural-looking, stain-resistant surface; they require less enamel removal than other cosmetic dental options, and they are strong and long-lasting when properly cared for.

As with other smile enhancement procedures, getting porcelain veneers is a multi-step process that begins with your dentist preparing the teeth to receive the veneers. A small amount of enamel must be removed from the front and sides of the teeth for proper adhesion and to ensure there is room in the mouth for the veneers to look like natural teeth.

The next step is for the dentist to make an impression, or mold, of the teeth, and work in consultation with the patient on shade selection.

While the impression is in the dental lab, your dentist may give you temporary veneers to wear while you wait for the finished product. Once complete, an appointment is scheduled to fit and shape the veneers to the teeth.  Then teeth are cleaned and the veneers are applied.

Checking and modifying your porcelain veneers becomes part of your regular dental visits.
